What is Nanotechnology?
Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on a near-atomic scale to produce new structures, materials and devices. The technology promises scientific advancement in many sectors such as medicine, consumer products, energy, materials and manufacturing. Nanotechnology refers to engineered structures, devices, and systems. Nanomaterials have a length scale between 1 and 100 nanometers. At this size, materials begin to exhibit unique properties that affect physical, chemical, and biological behavior. Researching, developing, and utilizing these properties is at the heart of new technology.
What is NANO day?
Event Date: October 09, 2023.
National Nanotechnology Day is an annual celebration featuring a series of community-led events and activities on or around October 9 to help raise awareness of nanotechnology, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. This date, 10/9/23, pays homage to the nanometer scale, 10-9 meters.
How can you get involved & spread awareness?
Review the TOOLKIT for various items to share on your social media platforms.
Add the following hashtags to all items: #NationalNanoDay #NanoDay2023 #FAN and make a specific hashtag for your University/Program such as #USFnanoSTEM.
Host activities & events at your institution:
100-Billion Nanometer Dash: Run #100BillionNanometers (100 meters) and share your pictures and videos on social media with #NationalNanoDay! Print a Certificate of Achievement and a Gold Medal for you or anyone who runs with you.
Sizing up Nano: How do you explain what a nanometer is? Or what a nanoparticle or a nanodevice look like? Send your explanations, pictures, and videos to nnd@nnco.nano.gov, or send a Tweet by using #NationalNanoDay!
Plan a tabling event by inviting your student organizations to share fun facts about nanotechnology while handing out merch items and program fliers.
If you have other ideas for activities in celebration of National Nanotechnology Day, we’d love to share them. Please share by sending it to: fan.network.info@gmail.com
